Big Ten Recruits Update: Ohio State
A by-the-numbers look at what some of the Buckeyes more college-ready recruits have been doing this season
As the post-season arrives for many teams I decided to check in on some of the recruits for the Buckeyes, who have a bye this first week of Big Ten playoffs. This is focused on statistical production and specifically their recruits from the 1998-2001 birthyears.
1998
Tate Singleton
Singleton leads his Central Illinois Flying Aces in scoring. The Proctor Academy product is one of the top goal scorers in the league this season, with 22 so far.
Ryan Snowden
Big goalie from Pennsylvania has 10 wins and 10 losses on the year, with a .902sv% and a 3.30 goals against average through 20+. Central Illinois announced they’ll be dissolving next season, so all things considered that is pretty good. The other goaltender on Central Illinois has an .881 and 3.68 through 30+ games.
1999
Aaron Grounds
Big-bodied forward has 6 goals and 56 PIMs this season for Sioux City.
Caleb Rule
The Shattuck-St. Mary’s product is one of the big offensive pieces on a 10-33-3 Lincoln Stars team. His 12 goals scored on the year are good for second on the team.
2000
Austin Chorney
The defender from Calgary has spent time on two rosters in the British Columbia circuit this year: Vernon and West Kelowna, after stints with Chilliwack and Salmon Arm earlier in his career. Presumably that’s because right-shots who can play on the point are always in demand.
2001
Michael Gildon
The big forward from Dallas is likely to be an NHL draft pick this summer, and continues to put up good numbers with the national program.
Arlo Merritt
Won a championship with Kimball Union (highlights), capping off a career in prep hockey where he never lost a game at the end of the season. Over the last two years the draft-eligible forward and three-time prep champion scored 37 goals for the Wildcats.
Alex Trombley
Center has spent time on a few different rosters this season, from the national program (!) to the Oakland Jr. Grizzlies Major Midgets, to Central Illinois of the USHL.
Camden Thiesing
The 18-year-old from Franklin, Tennessee leads his NAHL Chippewa Steel in scoring as a rookie to junior hockey in general.
Elan Bar-Lev-Wise
The Burnaby Winter Club (Vancouver) product has had a productive start to his junior hockey career, floating among the top 20 under-18 scorers in the BCHL playing for Vernon. 7-19-26 line in 58 today.
John Larkin
His first full season of junior hockey with Youngstown sees his Phantoms currently in 4th place. The young defenseman has about 7 points and 80 PIMs so far.
Mason Lohrei
16 points and +8 on the year through 20-something games on the back-end. His Culver Academy Prep team will play the Ohio Blue Jackets tonight to start off regionals.
