Highlighting some match-ups leading towards the end-of-year tournaments in high school hockey
Previewing some big games as we approach the end of the high school hockey season. The girls teams in Minnesota are entering sectional playoffs while it’s the final week of regular season play for the boys. In Prep hockey (New England), there’s still about two weeks and change to go.

2/11 - Results
Jackson Savoie’s hat trick lifted St. Cloud Cathedral over Breck, 6-1.
Chaska played Benilde at Mariucci to a 4-2 result with a third period Mike Koster (Minnesota) GWG. Video here
2/12 - Girls Match-ups
NWC x Roseau
North Wright County (20-5) head up to Roseau (19-4-1) for section 8AA playoffs. Bemidji State recruits Anita Stoskopf and Kayla Santl led the Rams to a 6-0 W over Bemidji, while North Wright got two goals from uncommitted senior D Lily Johnson to advance here. North Wright’s Kenzie Bourgerie had 67 points on the year, teammates Sydney Lemke (34-24-58) and Chloe Finnerty (13-38-51) have eye-popping lines as well.
Blaine x Maple Grove
Freshman Dani Brunette’s 4 points lifted the Bengals over Anoka last week, while senior Ohio State recruit Ramsey Parent sent in two for her 28th and 29th goals of the year. Maple Grove are led offensively by UMD-bound senior Mannon McMahon (44 points), sophomore Tristiana Tatur (Quinnipiac) and senior defenseman Emma Larson (17 assists).
Brainerd/Little Falls x Sartell/Sauk Rapids
S/SR are led up front by senior Brooke Walters 26 regular season tallies. Brainerd have a more balanced scoring group: jr. Lindsey Booth (36 points), sr. Abby Pohlkamp (34 points, hat-trick in sectionals), sr. Union recruit Cheyenne Abear (31 points).
2/12 - Boys Match-Ups
HM x Blaine
Charlie Strobel, Lucas Wahlin and Brett Oberle (UMD) lead the offense for Hill while 16-2-2 Blaine have a lethal offensive duo in yet another Brodzinski goalscorer (27-38-65 points): Bryce, a Minnesota recruit. 6’2 junior Carsen Richels has scored at least a goal in every game in 2019 (below). The last team to edge the Bengals was Eden Prairie just before Christmas: are the Pios up to the task?
Maple Grove x Duluth East
This game got cancelled
Notre Dame-committed freshman Justin Janicke paces MG offensively with 39 points on the year, while teammates Kyle and Trevor Kukkonen, both Michigan Tech commits, chip in more than their fair share. ASU recruit Tyler Kostolecky has 26 points in his senior campaign.
For East, uncommitted senior and NHL draft look Ryder Donovan has 37 points in 23 games. He’s likely to be a UMD recruit before all is said and done. Sophomore Jake Jeannette picked up 5 points in a 10-0 drubbing over Superior last night, nearly doubling his season totals.
Rosemount x Lakeville North
Rosemount are having a great year and possess a ton of secondary scoring. Three skaters have over 15 goals on the year (Jackson Sabo, Conner Kenefick and Wisco commit Luke Levandowski). Lakeville North are second in the South Suburban conference, just behind Rosemount. They lean on BGSU recruit Spencer Schneider’s 16 goals offensively, alongside junior Caden Smith and Shane Griffin.
EGF x TRF
Thief River Falls are putting together a good season, SCSU-bound defenseman Evan Bushy has 33 points in 22 outings, and he takes about 5 shots a game per the hockey hub. Tucker Skime, Grant Hartmann, Hunter Larson and Brockston Masseth have all put up some numbers this year. East Grand Forks are 16-8 led by a senior heavy scoring group and they have another Ausmus brother in the wings, as freshman Trey has 23 points in 24 games on the year. Soph Landon Parker has 21 points, including 11 buries.
