Some notes from prep hockey…
Dexter’s John Farinacci is the top-ranked skater out of prep hockey. He looked solid in the USHL this fall and scored at a pace of over two points per game this year. Dexter don’t have the strongest schedule in prep hockey, but that’s an impressive line for anyone.
It’s a good showing for Army and Atlantic hockey in general, with five recruits named. Kent’s Alex Laferriere was very noticeable for the Lions this winter and torched the scoring charts with nearly two points per game. Merrimack recruit Alex Jefferies notched 27 goals on the year for the Highlanders.
Brunswick’s Cooper Moore was the only defenseman of the eight named without a college commitment. He posted 13 goals and 18 assists on their blue line this year.
A few players I’d like to highlight from this past Sunday’s prep title game between Salisbury and Kent: Ohio State recruit Arlo Merritt for KUA and a pair of 2002’s in Lucas Mercuri (Vermont) and Mike Cameron (UMass) for Salisbury. Alongside Harvard recruit Matt Coronato, it is a seriously scary group of young players coming up in Salisbury yet again.
In Merritt’s case, the Halifax native is an under-the-radar draft look but someone that could really grow on Buckeyes fans when he gets to Columbus. He scored 19 goals this year, 18 last year, he can move and he’s got a good frame to build on. He scored a nice goal in the title game.
Mercuri on Salisbury isn’t draft-eligible this year but is the type of player who makes an impression with his length and his capacity to make things happen. Excited to see what he will follow this year’s 20-goal, 45-point campaign up with, if the Vermont recruit stays in Connecticut. Highlights below
Additionally, per Kent Hockey on Twitter, here’s the All-Founders league team. If anyone has any other conference teams (Lakes Region?) feel free to send them in on twitter or elsewhere. Harvard recruit Christian Jimenez (Taft) is a player that impressed me this fall.
